A Special Visit from Four Generations of the Herrick Family

Yesterday was a very special day at the College with a visit from four generations of the Herrick family. As the original owners of 'Lindisfarne' and the occupants of The Homestead (Main Office), the family came together to hear stories from Barbara who lived in the house as a child in the 1940s.

Rector, Mr Hakeney, shared morning tea with the family in his office, which was formerly Mr Herrick’s (Barbara’s father) study. “Barbara explained that she was never allowed in there as a child, but remembers riding her tricycle outside and potentially causing noise and disturbing her father while he was trying to work. It was so special to be taken on a tour of the homestead by someone who remembers it as her childhood home. At 94 years old, Barbara led us up the stairs to the top floor of the iconic building, sharing her memories along the way. She told me that she recalls it being a wonderful home to explore with her siblings and it was so big that they ran everywhere.”

George and Will Herrick who currently attend Lindisfarne, were able to hear about their family history while touring the building with their family. Thank you to the Herrick Family for making the time to visit with us.
