Producing the NZ Hunter Adventures show is fulfilling a boyhood dream for Willie and he can’t wait to see where this adventure takes him. Similar to the creation of NZ Hunter magazine, Greg and Willie Duley saw an opportunity, held a vision and backed themselves that they could make it happen.
With a belief that no TV shows were capturing the true magnificence that New Zealand’s mountains and game animals had to offer, nor the real essence of wilderness hunting in New Zealand, they set about changing it.
Familiar with cameras, having produced popular hunting DVDs, but with no TV contract or sponsors, Willie and Greg Duley embarked on a 12-month journey. They climbed and explored New Zealand’s mountains and wetlands to capture never before seen footage of a wide range of game animals in some truly incredible places.
With the stunning result for Season 1 in the can and a belief that it must go on free to view TV, they worked hard to get a TV contract and sponsors to make the show happen.
“After finishing up at Lindisfarne in 2009 and fare-welling my beloved red blazer, I headed South to study agriculture at Lincoln University for 3 years. I managed to survive that experience, met some great characters along the way and came out with a Bachelor of Commerce in Agriculture, majoring in Rural Valuation and Farm Management. I then joined ANZ bank in their Commercial and Agri graduate programme and worked as a Rural banker in the Canterbury and West Coast region for a few years. I took a punt on what was a bit of a boyhood dream of mine, and attempted to produce a hunting and outdoor adventure television show.
As soon as we were picked up by a channel and had a few sponsors on board, I chucked in my banking job and shifted home to Hawke's Bay to pursue the TV show, and its been a bit of a whirlwind ever since. Now 4 years later, I am back living in Hawke’s Bay and am filming and producing our 5th season of the NZ Hunter Adventures, which will air on TV1 early next year.
I grew up in Puketapu on my parent's Orchard, Vineyard and small farm, attended Puketapu school (an awesome little country school) until attending Lindisfarne for my high school years. Growing up, I held interests in all things rugby, farming, and the outdoors, particularly hunting and fishing. As I've grown older, my passion for the outdoors has completely consumed my life, for both work & leisure. Doing a hunting show was bit of a boyhood dream for me and I was continually frustrated at how hunting was negatively portrayed in the media, the poor public perception it was gaining, and that no one was producing a show that actually showcased just how the good the NZ outdoors actually are and what is on offer out there. So one year, I just took a gamble and set about changing all that. I enjoy being able to spend 100+ days a year in the mountains and exploring some pretty special wild places, and having some magical experiences with a range of big game animals so far from any form of civilisation.”
