Mike Knobloch (1980-1984)

Mike is the President of the Old Boys' Association. He lives in Hawke's Bay consulting for a number of companies, from helicopters, farming, gaming trusts to investment funds.

"Sending me to Lindisfarne College was probably one of the best things my parents did for me. Growing up on a farm in Central Hawke's Bay it gave me the opportunity to experience things that I would never have done. As a boarder I also had to grow up pretty quickly! You have to interact with all sorts of personalities and people from all walks of life. Recognising our differences and getting on with it is one of the greatest lessons in life.

When I left College, I thought that studying business would be useful for whatever I want to do. I went to Massey University and got a BBS majoring in Accounting and Finance, which has enabled me to travel the world and work with some really great people and projects. I’m now back in Hawke's Bay consulting for a number of companies, from helicopters, farming, gaming trusts to investment funds. Variety is the spice of life, no two days are the same!

Money is not the be all and end all, family is what drives me. My wife and I have three children, our two boys are currently at Lindisfarne and our daughter has just started studying at Canterbury University. I also consider my mates that I went to Lindisfarne with as part of my family.

Lindisfarne College is a great place to grow up and become a young adult. It’s a place that forms the basis of lifelong relationships and experiences. You learn the determination to achieve things, tolerance, relating with people and getting on with them. As a boarder you are also living with the guys you are learning from as well.

For our current boys at school – grab every opportunity that you can, make the most of it, and look after your mates. Be proud of your school and make your school proud of you.

65 from the Archive: Celebrating our People and Place is a great opportunity to take a moment and celebrate the memories that have been created over the last 65 years. Help us inspire the boys at school today about what life holds beyond College life and share your story about where you are today.

And lastly, don’t forget to join us for a beer at one of our functions or send us a pic of you and your old school mates enjoying a beer, wherever in the world you are!"
