In the last few weeks of term we have had our latest artist in residence, Brandon Blair, visit the College, following on from our 2020 Artist in Residence, FLOX. Brandon is a locally based painter and it is possible to see his artwork dotted all around Hawke’s Bay. Most people will recognize his work as it is featured on the eastern wall of the Hastings Library, in the squid and pirate paintings at Splash Planet and at many other schools around Hawke’s Bay.

This year’s art project was a collaboration between our arts and math departments with Art Department head Mrs. Rachel Harland commissioning a very colourful, mathematically themed mural in the Mouat block entrance. The mural features famous mathematicians such as Einstein, Euclid, Socrates and Galileo, as well equations and mathematical terms. It was great to have Brandon creating his artwork during the school term so boys were able to watch the process and see a glimpse of the local talent we are fortunate to have in Hawke’s Bay.
