Rugby Finals 2021

Despite the suspension of most sport during lockdown which resulted in a disappointing end to the season for many, Lindisfarne did make it through to two important finals for our Second XV and D Grade rugby teams who were contesting the Unison Cup and the Division 3 HBRFU SS title respectively.

In the final of the Unison Cup, the 2nd XV were up against CHB with each team having won once in earlier matches. The game began with both teams defending tightly and struggling to break each other’s defence. After a penalty apiece, CHB were the first to score a try leaving the half time score at 3-10 to CHB. In the second half Lindisfarne fought back and , using the wind to great advantage, scored two converted tries to take the final result to 17-13, a well-deserved win for Lindisfarne. Well done and thank you to the 2nd XV squad members for their commitment and effort throughout the season.

Lindisfarne’s D Grade team came up against St John’s College in their final of the season. St John’s had beaten Lindisfarne three times during the season but the D Grade team saved the best for last. Up 15-14 after the first half, Lindisfarne conceded no points in the second half, running the score up to 41-14 and taking out the HBRFU SS Div 3 title. Every lad played his heart out in this genuine team effort. In particular, George Kilsby (Captain), Jack Brittin and Josh Griffiths made an outstanding contribution. Thanks must go to assistant forwards coach Julian Dann and to the parents who supported the team.
