Life here is built on four cornerstones academic, sport, cultural and Christian, giving each boy a balanced foundation to become a young man of character.
There’s nothing that builds life-skills and confidence like sports. Our facilities are top class, with a gymnasium, health and fitness equipment, 12 hectares of fields, an all-weather floodlit multi-sports area, a 25m outdoor swimming pool and a 2.4km fitness course. We also have access to a world-class athletics track, and a Tier 1 standard hockey turf. Lindisfarne teams are involved in exchanges with other schools nearby, and across the country, and have toured extensively in the USA, France, UK, India, Sri Lanka and Australia.
Cultural achievement takes pride of place at Lindisfarne. All junior students study Music, Visual Arts, Technology, Languages and Oral Communication, expanding to even more subjects in our senior curriculum. The Performing Arts programme provides existing musicians with specialist tuition and band membership, while giving those who have never played an instrument a chance to explore their potential. Performance opportunities abound, in speech, drama and music. Our purpose-built auditorium and specialist staff provide the launch pad for student success, with Kapa Haka and the prestigious Manu Kōrero speech competition further nurturing students’ oratory and performance skills.
We embed a deep love of learning in every boy, focusing rightly on the academic outcomes of each student. Only the very best teaching staff work with our boys, enhanced by carefully curated learning environments. We have an individualised approach to meeting the specific needs of our students – including specialist assessments; remedial tuition in classes; extension programmes; and the support of a team of skilled practitioners. Success is seen each year in our outstanding academic results, consistently ranking in the top five of all boys’ schools, nationwide.
Boys of all faiths are welcome in the Lindisfarne family. The special character of the College embodies the Christian faith and our Presbyterian heritage, but it is no way exclusive. Strong themes of respect, integrity, courage, kindness, service and humility – which are common to many religions – underpin the ethos of our College. Service is one of the core values of the College and is a fundamental part of our Special Character. College life offers many occasions to lead and serve others: coaching a junior team; academic tutoring, guiding prospective families around the College and leading a tutor class or chapel service, are all rewarding ways to enhance a boy’s personal and spiritual growth.
